As one of the NSW Integrated Care Demonstrator sites, Western Sydney engaged Francis Health to undertake a current state analysis and a framework for evaluating the Return On Investment and to better understand what future directions are available for their Integrated Care Program.
Funded by NSW Health in 2013, the Western Sydney Integrated Care Program (WSICP) is changing the way healthcare is delivered in Western Sydney through a strong partnership between the LHD and the Primary Health Network (WentWest). As one of three demonstrator sites funded by the NSW Health Integrated Care Strategy, the WSICP has an important role to play in the delivery of truly integrated care across NSW. A current state analysis of the Program and framework for evaluating the Return On Investment (ROI) was required to better understand what future directions are available and how they might be implemented.
Our tailored approach
Western Sydney LHD required an in depth knowledge of both the local integrated care Demonstrator program but also a deep understanding of the state-wide and national policy directions within the integrated care context.
Francis Health developed a framework for calculating the ROI to evaluate the impact of the WSICP. Evaluation of ROI was achieved by comparing the known program costs against the value of the benefits anticipated.
Our Joint Solution
The ROI for integrated care patients in the WSICP was developed in conjunction with Western Sydney LHD and their Wentwest partners. The solution Francis Health delivered provided the WSICP with an evidence-based framework for evaluating ROI and drive further improvement and implementation in the integrated care space. The ROI findings included an anticipated positive return on investment result in 2017/18 as well as provided an estimation of hospital cost savings from implementation of the WSICP.
