Herman Sung

Senior Consultant

What would you describe as your area of expertise?

The ability to objectively solve problems that may be complex and of a technical nature, and distil ideas in a way that decision makers can easily understand and act upon.

Which projects are you most proud of? Why?

In my previous role I had the opportunity to work as the lead business analyst to transform an IT system which is used by a government agency to identify individuals arriving at the NZ border who may pose a threat to national security. This was a legacy system which users have found to be inefficient and its functions were no longer fit for purpose due to changing business requirements over time.
In collaboration with the client stakeholders and system users, I worked with them to help define the requirements that the system needs to fulfil and design the future state of the system and processes. Key changes comprised of a streamlined user interface, presenting new information on the system using additional sources of data from external agencies and implementing other key functional improvements to reduce processing time.
It was satisfying to know that the system changes were well received by the clients, and to know that the outcomes of this project made a difference by making the users’ lives a bit easier by becoming more efficient under a time-strained environment and more accurately identify the individuals of interest.

How would you describe working for Francis Health?

There is good team chemistry within this tight knitted company and an established culture of pragmaticism. The team is very approachable and as such I can tap into each member’s unique skillset and experience for support, which means there is never a lack of ideas on how to solve the problems at hand.

What projects are you currently working on?

I am currently involved in a programme of work  which is focused on helping the Wellington Hospital to improve their operations and provide a better service for patients during their stay in the emergency department and Inpatient Wards. I provide analytical services to transform data into actionable information with an aim to help the leadership team to better understand their work environment and make objective decisions based on facts to improve their performance.
